Multi-purpose Emergency Dispatch System (MEDS)

MEDS is the software element of the comprehensive APCO EMD Program, which includes training, EMD guidecards, and MEDS. The program is modified to fit your agency through close consultation with those responsible for local EMD requirements.

APCO Institute's Multi-purpose Emergency Dispatch Systems (MEDS) is a Windows™ software application designed to guide operators through emergency calls while recording information that can be used for quality improvement purposes.

Multi-purpose Emergency Dispatch System (MEDS)

  • Functions with Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems or as a stand-alone product.
  • Check boxes and pull-down menus simplify call entry.
  • The "Immediate dispatch" button on the General Questions screen lets the calltaker send the call to the dispatcher immediately for critical cases.
  • CPR, Obstructed Airway and Childbirth instructions are available at all times, saving time and preventing confusion.
  • Dispatchers can access hazardous materials information quickly from the North American Emergency Response Guidebook (NAERG).
  • Data management tools allow on-site entry of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), local contact information and user login.
  • Quality management is easy with our Case Review feature, which allows for search and evaluation of cases based on locally defined criteria.
  • Archive feature stores calls for future review.
  • Software, along with archive component, assists in call-trend analysis that may concern homeland security.
  • Optional E-Mail Alert component can be set up to scan database for specific trends and notify selected agencies via e-mail.
